The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has recently announced the expansion of myProgress, formerly recognized as personalized processing times, to facilitate a smoother application process for individuals filing Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, and Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. Initially, this enhancement will cater solely to family-based or Afghan special immigrant I-485 applicants.

myProgress serves as a tool granting applicants access, within their online accounts, to personalized estimations regarding their wait times for critical milestones and actions related to their case, culminating in their final case decision. While these estimates rely on case type and historical data, they are not indicative of precise timing and might not encompass all unique application processing factors.

The implementation of myProgress aligns with USCIS’ dedication to improving customer experience. By proactively addressing applicant concerns about the status of their benefit requests during the waiting period for a decision, USCIS demonstrates its commitment to supporting Executive Order 14058 on Transforming Federal Customer Experience and Service Delivery to Rebuild Trust in Government Mandates. Simultaneously, this move aims to decrease the necessity for case status inquiries. Such initiatives are integral parts of USCIS’ Strategic Plan, emphasizing the enhancement of the overall experience for individuals navigating the immigration process. The broader integration of myProgress is anticipated to augment transparency within the adjudication process.

Apart from Form I-485 and Form I-821, myProgress is accessible to applicants possessing a USCIS online account, provided they file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization; Form I-131, Application for Travel Document; Form N-400, Application for Naturalization; Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card; or Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative.

To access myProgress, applicants must initially create a USCIS online account or log into their existing account, selecting their pending application. If applicants filed online or linked one of the applicable forms to their online account using an online access code, they will find a designated myProgress tab for their application. This tab showcases the estimated wait time until their case reaches a decision, accompanied by checkboxes denoting completed milestones, including confirmation of application receipt, progression through preprocessing and adjudicative steps, and the final case decision.

Despite the availability of myProgress, applicants will still need to refer to the public Check Case Processing Times webpage to ascertain their eligibility for filing an Outside of Normal Processing Times service request.

USCIS’ expansion of myProgress signifies a proactive step toward fostering transparency and offering a more informed, streamlined experience for individuals navigating the immigration application process.
