Interesting Facts:

Although Mariko hails from Aichi Prefecture, she has lived in the Kansai area, including Nara and Osaka. Mariko is fluent in many Japanese dialects, including Mikawa, Kansai, Okayama, and is now mastering the Tokyo dialect.

At SWLG:

Mariko is a member of our Tokyo office. She handles various immigration-related cases for both individual and corporate clients, in English and Japanese.

Prior Experience:

Before joining SWLG, Mariko worked as a paralegal at another immigration firm in San Francisco. She handled various immigration-related tasks including non-immigrant visas, immigrant visas, DACA, and visa stamps. Prior to her career as a paralegal, Mariko was a language instructor, teaching Japanese and English at the university level as well as at English language schools.

Interest in Immigration:

The origins of Mariko’s passion for assisting others with their immigration matters lies in her teaching career. As an English instructor, Mariko taught hundreds of students, helping them reach their goals and dreams in Japan. But many of her students also dreamed about living in the United States as well and needed to overcome various immigration obstacles. Although her career as a teacher was rewarding, Mariko decided to pursue a new career as a paralegal specializing in U.S. immigration law so that she could assist those who dream of moving to and starting a life in the United States.
