The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that beginning in May 2019, I-94 numbers will be alphanumeric. Prior to this point, I-94 numbers have been 11 digits long and only contained numbers. CBP will be implementing this change because of the depletion of numeric-only I-94 numbers and in order to create a long-term solution for the creation of new I-94 numbers.
