{"id":2855,"date":"2020-05-29T10:31:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T17:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swlgpc.com\/eng\/?p=2855"},"modified":"2020-05-29T10:31:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T17:31:00","slug":"extension-travel-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swlgpc.com\/eng\/extension-travel-restrictions\/","title":{"rendered":"Extension of Travel Restrictions Between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/publication\/notification-temporary-travel-restrictions-applicable-land-ports-entry-and-ferries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extended the temporary travel restrictions<\/a> across the U.S-Canada border and the U.S.-Mexico border for an additional 30 days, through June 22, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DHS is limiting travel to \u201cessential\u201d activities including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>U.S. Citizens and lawful permanent residents returning to the U.S.;<\/li>\n<li>Individuals traveling for medical, emergency, or public health purposes;<\/li>\n<li>Individuals traveling to attend educational institutions;<\/li>\n<li>Individuals engaged in lawful cross-border trade (\u201ce.g., truck drivers supporting the movement of cargo\u201d across borders);<\/li>\n<li>Military-related travel; individuals engaged in official government or diplomatic travel; and members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their immediate families returning to the U.S.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Notice also lists as &#8220;essential&#8221; \u201cindividuals traveling to work in the United States (e.g., individuals working in the farming or agriculture industry who must travel between the U.S. and Mexico [and Canada] in furtherance of such work.)\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Non-essential&#8221; travel includes tourism (\u201ce.g., sightseeing, recreation, gambling, or attending cultural events\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>It should also be noted that this restriction applies only to travel <u>across the borders at Points of Entry or by ferry<\/u>, but <strong><em>does not<\/em> <\/strong>apply to air, freight rail, or sea travel (except by ferry).<\/p>\n<p>DHS also states that they may amend these restrictions at any time.
